Asthma in Dogs? Tulia the dog’s diagnosis was a rare one.

Asthma in Dogs? Tulia the dog’s diagnosis was a rare one.

Asthma in dogs is not common. Asthma is an “allergic disease”. Just as in humans, dogs can suffer just the same but it is very rare. The allergic reaction will result in an airway inflammation causing constriction and spasm of the airways in the lungs.

Cats are often more susceptible to asthma but in canines, small dogs are more vulnerable than larger breeds.

Our NHV Family member Nancy adopted Tullia after she was found in rural Tennessee. Tullia was then diagnosed with asthma, and it is a rare condition in dogs, Nancy decided to look for the various options she had to support her new rescue.

She uses NHV’s Resp-Aid to alleviate Tullias symptoms daily. Since starting the Resp-Aid, she rarely needs to use prescribed medications except for on really bad days when it’s damp and she’s more susceptible. Afterward adding NHV’s Stimmune remedy for allergic reactions, it’s boosted her quality of life greatly.

Although her veterinarian was skeptical of the supplements, they were impressed with the sound of Tullia’s lungs after only a month of starting the Resp Aid!
Dogs with respiratory disorders will often display symptoms such as coughing, heavy panting, wheezing, and have difficulty breathing.
They may also have an excess buildup of mucous and phlegm, which in severe cases can cause a dog’s gums to turn blue due to lack of oxygen.

During an attack, your pet may become panicked and it’s important to calm them as best you can without closing their mouth. Using a calm tone of voice and softly stroking them (if possible) will help, as well as having a favorite blanket or stuffy nearby that they will recognize. Keeping the space quiet will also allow them to stay calm, have just a single person in the room, and maintain a quiet presence.

These attacks are triggered by inhalation of an allergen. There are many allergens that may affect a dog with asthma such as:

  1. Mold
  2. Dust and mold mites
  3. Cat litter dust
  4. Cat dander
  5. Airborne pollens
  6. Household Cleaners
  7. Pollution
  8. Deodorizers & perfumes
  9. Pesticides
  10. Fertilizers
  11. Smoke

Asthma in dogs is usually diagnosed by X-ray and can be treated with various medications depending on the severity of the condition.

Ways to lessen your pets asthma attacks:

* No smoking near your pet
* If you have cats, dust-free litter
* Try to rid your home of carpets if you are able
* Keep a clean, dust-free home as much as possible using only natural, scent-free cleaners

* Bathe your dog regularly and ensure they are thoroughly dry
* Use an air purifier or dehumidifier
* Use NHV’s Asthma Kit for Respiratory Relief

NHV Resp-Aid is a herbal remedy that has herbs like coltsfoot, marshmallow, plantain, and licorice. These make the remedy one with anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, and healing properties. This makes it helpful for upper respiratory congestion, infection, and shortness of breath.
